The Roses Theatre Trust was formed in 1995 and re-opened the theatre in 1996, creating a new arts venue at the northern-most point of the South West Region. We host a 375 seat auditorium which is used for both live and film events, and a 90 seat Cafe Bar for comedy and acoustic music. Much of the Take Part work takes place outside of the building in the community. The achievement of The Roses over the last 15 years has been hugely significant, creating a programme that combines live performing arts of exceptional diversity, cultural film screenings of national significance, a new Live Screenings programme and a ground-breaking Take Part programme.
The Roses is highly regarded in the South West, combining an eclectic programme with a complete theatre experience so that the arts may be enjoyed in a welcoming, safe, relaxed and enjoyable environment. Public consultation tells us that the experience of coming to The Roses is highly valued by many and stems from a culture within the organisation that the customer is appreciated and cared for.
The Roses has built a reputation for strong partnership working both inside and outside the county. Partnerships include the NHS, Primary Care Trust, Youth Offending Services in Worcestershire and Gloucestershire, Libraries, GP surgeries, the County Council and Borough Council, Gloucestershire Rural Community Council and a wide range of arts organisations. The quality of the Take Part work and its corresponding evaluation, has given The Roses an enviable reputation as an organisation that delivers results.
The Roses has also led on the development of the newly formed organisation Create Gloucestershire, a consortium of arts organisations in the county, that will support and enable the arts and cultural sector to act together strategically and collectively to develop an unrivalled arts offer for the people of Gloucestershire.
