Never Better is a performance based discussion about the history of Mental Health in Gloucestershire. An hour long performance with discussion, performance and music performed by three actors, two musicians, Strike A Light's co-artistic director and staff from the Archives.
Over the last year a group of creatives have worked with Gloucester History festival unearthing stories from Gloucestershire Archives that reveal personal and professional tales of mental health through the ages. Alongside this research has been gathered contemporary mental health stories from local communities across Gloucestershire. This material has been combined and used to create a delicate and moving piece of performance theatre produced by Strike A Light where a cast of professional and community actors brought these stories to life at Blackfriars priory in Gloucester. Any stories that were gathered will be added to Gloucestershire Archives’ collections, where they will be preserved permanently as a resource for use in research and publication.
The Never Better tour, of which this performance is a part, takes elements of the performance and brings it to venues around Gloucestershire. The producer of the show leads this informal event explaining how the show was made, what our research process was and the actors and musicians from the show perform beautiful extracts from the piece.
This event is entirely free and we particularly welcome people with lived experience of mental ill health.
