Box Office Assistant

You will work as part of a dedicated staff team to provide welcoming and efficient customer service in order to develop The Roses as a vibrant centre for art, entertainment, education and community activities for Tewkesbury and the wider region. In particular, you will operate the Box Office effectively and accurately, in order to promote the venue and its programme to develop audiences and increase ticket sales.

Contract type: Guaranteed 10 hours per week, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays

Responsibilities

  • To work closely with the Box Office Supervisor and Head of Marketing & Programming as the first point of contact with the public, in person and by telephone, to project a positive and friendly image of The Roses and its programme in order to generate income for The Roses through sales, customer service and product knowledge 
  • To operate the Box Office systems efficiently and accurately, including providing reports and data when required 
  • To manage marketing material in the venue and keep the foyer/box office area tidy and informative 
  • To have a sound knowledge of The Roses’ programme in order to provide accurate information to the public and increase ticket sales 
  • To act as reception to welcome user groups, to accept incoming deliveries, and to distribute parcels and post. 
  • To assist with Marketing tasks such as preparing direct mails, data cleansing, data collating  and research to ensure that Marketing and Box Office work cohesively as one department 
  • To work shifts which fall within Box Office opening times. This includes daytimes and evenings, weekends and bank holidays, school holidays and other public holidays 
  • In all matters, to operate in accordance with the Company’s employment, health & safety, diversity, safeguarding and other practices, policies and procedures.
  • To undertake any other duties that are consistent with the purpose of the job or may be required.


Person Specification
Required Experience and abilities

  • Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service 
  • A friendly, outgoing and confident personality 
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Accurate numeral and literacy skills and absolute attention to detail 
  • To work well both in a team and individually 
  • Ability to keep calm and respond well to last minute changes and alterations 
  • Ability to work flexible hours, showing willingness and cooperation to work additional hours as and when needed 
  • Competent computer skills 

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within another customer facing role 

Terms
Hours: A guaranteed 10 hours per week across evenings, weekends and bank holidays with the expectation of additional hours as required to cover daytime shifts, sickness and holidays 
Salary: £9.50 per hour (any bank holidays worked are paid at time and a half)
Holidays: 28 days holiday pro rata to be taken within the theatre financial year of 1st April – 31st March. Holidays not taken cannot be carried forward, unless at the discretion of the Theatre Director. Holidays to be agreed with the Box Office Supervisor and not to coincide with other box office staff unless authorised. Holidays are not permitted on allocated shifts on Christmas public holidays. 
Probation: 3 months
Notice period: 1 month
