Duty Manager

As the Duty Manager your role is to create a welcoming, safe, and well organised environment during your shifts. You will be the main point of contact for all staff and volunteers during your rostered hours and will take the lead during your shifts. Your everyday duties will be opening and closing the building, managing the volunteers during your shifts, liaising with the tech team and supporting other sales areas where necessary.

Responsible for: FoH staff, volunteer stewards 


  • To develop, manage and maintain a vibrant, safe, clean and welcoming front of house area for audiences, customers, community users and staff
  • To deliver excellent customer service, care, and communication 
  • To ensure that volunteers are appropriately informed of their duties before each shift 
  • To provide extra support to the Box Office and Café/Bar during busy periods 
  • To develop an environment that encourages customers and audiences towards our bar and café area, and highlights the excellent facilities in the theatre 
  • To support the Front of House & Facilities Manager in maximising revenue for the theatre through different fundraising schemes. 
  • To be the key ‘touchpoint’ contact during your rostered shift
  • To be a keyholder for the building and feel competent with pre-opening and post-closure checks.
  • To ensure the venue is accessible and welcoming to all visitors, including those with disabilities other protected characteristics
  • To ensure that the facilities are always kept in excellent condition and usability 
  • To undertake any appropriate training as required by the business 
  • To support Box Office during busy periods with sales and ticketing, using FoH space and staff where appropriate

Person Specification

We are looking for a friendly, highly organised and methodical individual with excellent customer service skills, who can combine the management of detailed process and procedure with the creativity needed to build a brilliant, vibrant and welcoming venue space. 

Required Experience and abilities

  • A demonstrable interest and enthusiasm for theatre, film and performing arts
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent customer service skills

Desirable Experience

  • An understanding of communities & arts audiences across Tewkesbury town & borough 
  • Experience of working with volunteers 

Hours: Flexible
Salary: £9.50 per hour (any bank holidays worked are paid at time and a half)
Holidays: 28 days holiday pro rata
Probation: 3 months
Notice period: 1 month
