From the team that brought you (Almost) A Christmas Carol comes an outlandish, outdoor laugh-out-loud spectacle of Shakespearian proportions!
Get your Bottom outside as Shakespeare’s much-loved comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream is given the ‘Almost’ treatment by The Roses Theatre, in this three-person romp around Ancient Athens, The Enchanted Forest and Victoria Gardens, Tewkesbury!
Humphrey DeForest Brassington-Jones is an award-winning theatre writer and director, and his traveling troupe of players are touring the English summer countryside with their acclaimed outdoor production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Sadly there has been a hold up on the M5 (due to a collision between a fuel tanker and a poultry truck) and the entire cast, scenery and costumes, save Humphrey, are detained.
However; the show must go on, and Humphrey declares to the audience that rather than deny them their summer dose of Shakespeare that he will endeavour to play every part himself!
Enter two enthusiastic but not entirely helpful volunteers - Jack the Council Gardener, who lovingly tends to the horticultural needs of Victoria Gardens whilst also tending to his large beard and living on a boat moored nearby, and Ms Anneka Drable, a tweedy professor of English Literature and Medieval History, who may or may not know more about Shakespeare’s life, times and works than Humphrey!
There’s a lack of fairy-dust but plenty of compost as the three of them fight out the details, the plot, the rose garden, and how much turf it takes to lay a donkey down.
Will True love find a way? Will Bottom come top in the Donkey contest? Will the head-fairy work out what the Puck is going on?
Join us where the gardens meet the riverbank for what will be Almost A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Brand new and original summer entertainment, brought to you by the Roses Theatre.
