Film history would have been very different if he had heeded the producer’s advice to give up on a production plague by a multitude of logistical issues and malfunctioning mechanical sharks. Instead, clever editing, impeccable pacing and John Williams’ unforgettable score turned what could have been a trashy low budget B-movie into one of the most suspenseful thrillers ever made.
