FREE Stop Motion Animation Workshops (Ages 13–18)
Join us at the Future’s Now Festival for a series of free, hands-on Stop Motion Animation workshops designed especially for young people aged 13–18.
In just 45 minutes, participants will learn the basics of animation and create their own short stop motion sequence with guidance from professional filmmakers.
No experience neede —and all equipment is provided.
What will happen in the workshop?
Stop motion animation is made one photo at a time—tiny movements that, when played back, bring characters to life. You’ll probably recognise it from films like Wallace & Gromit or The Nightmare Before Christmas.
In this 45-minute, hands-on session, you’ll:
- Use professional animation equipment provided by the facilitators
- Work with small 3D characters to create your own mini animation
- Learn core film and animation skills in a fun, supportive environment
- See your ideas turn into moving images—fast
No experience needed. You don’t need to bring anything at all—just your imagination.

Do participants need to bring anything?
No. All equipment and materials are provided by the facilitators. Participants just need to turn up ready to get creative.
Who runs the workshops?
The workshops are led by experienced facilitators and professional filmmakers from Chocolate Films. A member of The Roses Theatre staff will also be present to support and manage the sessions.
Is this suitable for beginners?
Yes. These workshops are designed for complete beginners, as well as those who already have an interest in film or animation.
Can parents or carers stay?
Parents and carers are welcome to remain in the building during the workshop. However, the sessions themselves are designed for young people to take part independently.
What if we can no longer attend?
If you can no longer attend, please let us know as soon as possible so the space can be offered to someone else.
Is there a cost to take part?
No. These workshops are completely free thanks to the Big Give, but booking is essential as spaces are limited.

If the participant has any access or support requirements, please contact The Roses Theatre in advance and the team will be happy to help.
