About DJ Ahmet
Ahmet yearns to break away from a life of counting sheep in a remote Macedonian village, could techno music be his way out?
Ahmet is fifteen, shy, and obsessed with music. Living in a tight-knit Yörük community in North Macedonia, he spends his days dodging tradition and dreaming of turntables. His mind is consumed with late-night mixes, the lure of the stage and a forbidden crush, but cultural and family expectations threaten to silence him.
With its picturesque setting, quirky humour, vibrant traditional dress and uplifting mixture of modern dance and traditional music, DJ Ahmet is a captivating glimpse into a world still holding on to its traditions while trying to incorporate global influences. Arif Jakup gives a lovey, lived-in central performance, alongside some charming supporting characters including Ahmets sassy love interest, his adorable mute younger brother and a scene stealing pink sheep!
