About Nouvelle Vague
Oscar-nominated Richard Linklater – a cinematic innovator in his own right – recreates one of the pivotal moments in the history of cinema –the filming of Jean Luc Godard’s groundbreaking first feature, 1960s A Bout de Souffle (Breathless). Lovingly recreating the film’s stylish, effortlessly cool aesthetic, complete with celluloid glitches and cue dots, there’s a playful energy to proceedings as Godard and his ramshackle crew hit the streets of Paris without a script, a plot or sometimes even a director and attempt to make a noir-ish crime story. Up and coming American actress Jean Seberg, who was somehow convinced to join the project, is horrified by the amateurishness of the production; her co-star, a young boxer named Jean Paul Belmondo couldn’t care less.
It’s a cinephile’s dream, but don’t worry if you’ve never seen A Bout De Souffle,
you can see it right here on Mon2 Mar.
