The film follows Vadim Baranov (Paul Dano) - who bears more than a passing similarity to Vladimir Putins notorious spin doctor Vladislav Surkov - as he rises from underground artist to the shadowy architect of a new Russian power structure. As he shapes narratives, manipulates public perception and navigates oligarchs, media barons and a fast‑ascending Putin (a remarkable Jude Law), Baranov becomes both creator and captive of the system he builds.
