Join the Technical Team at The Roses Theatre for a practical, hands-on day exploring the world of technical theatre. Working on our stage and with our professional equipment, you'll gain an insight into the skills, technology and teamwork that make live performances possible.

Throughout the day you'll explore:

Introduction to Lighting

• Learn the basics of stage lighting design
• Get hands-on programming and operating lighting on our stage
• Discover how lighting equipment is rigged and maintained

Introduction to Sound

• Explore professional sound equipment and software
• Try your hand at operating a sound desk
• Set up sound equipment including microphones

Introduction to Stage Management

• Discover the roles and responsibilities of a stage manager
• Learn how productions are coordinated behind the scenes
• Explore backstage communication and cueing

Special Effects Demonstration

• See how productions use effects such as fog, haze and pyrotechnics safely and effectively
• Learn about the planning and processes involved

End of Day Challenge

Working in teams, you'll design, programme and operate a scene from a real production, bringing together everything you've learned throughout the day.

The workshop is led by The Roses Theatre Technical Department and industry freelancers, offering a unique opportunity to learn from professionals working in theatre today.

No previous experience is needed, just curiosity, enthusiasm and a willingness to get stuck in.
