News Story

Our Artistic Director, Derek Bond, will be taking on an exciting new challenge this spring as he runs the Tewkesbury Half Marathon on Sun 12 Apr.

Since joining The Roses in September 2025, Derek has quickly made a meaningful impact—not only within the organisation but also across the wider community. His passion for the arts and commitment to The Roses have already helped strengthen connections and bring fresh energy to our work, with more plans being announced soon. Now, he’s taking that dedication one step further by fundraising in support of the organisation.

The Roses is a registered charity and not-for-profit organisation and all funds raised will directly support our ongoing work bringing arts and culture to the community. By taking part in the half marathon, Derek is helping to ensure that The Roses can continue to inspire, entertain and engage audiences of all ages.

Derek is no stranger to running, regularly taking part in running events and enjoying the challenge they bring. This time, however, he’s setting his sights even higher by aiming to complete the 21.1km course ahead of his personal best of 2 hours and 4 minutes.

Derek, Artistic Director & CEO, says:

"I’ve been really inspired by members of our team and board taking on challenge events to support the work of the Roses. The Tewkesbury Half felt like the perfect opportunity for me to contribute something too. I just hope I can make it to the finish line in the running time of a panto, rather than the rehearsal time..."

With a fundraising target of £300, Derek is calling on supporters of The Roses to help him reach his goal. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a real difference in supporting the charity’s work.

If you would like to support Derek and this fantastic cause, you can visit his GoFundMe page and donate if you are able. Your encouragement and generosity will help carry him across the finish line—both in the race and in reaching his fundraising target.
