The Roses Young Creatives (RYC) youth theatre has once again captivated audiences with their annual Youth Production—this year presenting The Wizard of Oz: youth edition to a packed house. The performance marked the third consecutive year of sell-out success for RYC, solidifying its place as a highlight of The Roses’ youth programme.

The beloved classic was specially chosen to celebrate The Roses’ 50th anniversary, as The Wizard of Oz was first broadcast on UK television during Christmas 1975—the same year the theatre opened its doors.

Since its inception just three years ago, RYC has seen incredible growth. The programme is now running at full capacity, with over 70 children on a waiting list to join. This year’s launch of RYC Minis, a new initiative for 3–4-year-olds, ensures that creative opportunities are now available to children of every age.

Following months of preparation, a week of intensive technical rehearsals, a final dress run and a prom night for senior cast members, the young performers were more than ready to shine on stage. Their hard work and dedication behind the scenes paid off, delivering a vibrant and heartfelt production that was met with rapturous applause.

This incredible production was made possible thanks to the generous support of Courtney World Travel and DJP Productions, as well as the contributions of St Edward’s School (costumes and set), Infinite Creatives and our fantastic work experience team (props). A special thank you also goes to the parents and guardians for their ongoing commitment—coordinating drop-offs, pick-ups and those last-minute costume rescues.

“We are incredibly proud of everyone who took part in The Wizard of Oz: Youth Edition and helped bring the magic to life, both on stage and behind the scenes,” said Georgia Shire, Children and Young People Producer. “It’s always so rewarding to see their confidence grow as they step onto the stage and, most importantly, have fun doing it.”

Looking ahead, the team is now preparing to expand its senior sessions and welcome back its budding stars in September for another exciting year of creativity and performance.
