As The Roses celebrates its 50th anniversary year, we are beginning an exciting new chapter—and we’re looking for the right person to lead it.

We are recruiting a new Director (CEO) to guide The Roses through its next phase of development: someone with vision, ambition, and a deep belief in the power of creativity to transform lives. The successful candidate will join a thriving, much-loved organisation that punches far above its weight—both as a performance venue and as a catalyst for community connection and wellbeing.

Over the past six years, The Roses has undergone a remarkable period of reinvention. We have rebuilt our business model from the ground up, expanded our income, launched new youth and commercial departments, and returned to financial surplus—without any core public subsidy. We’ve redeveloped our box office and restaurant, rebranded, relaunched our website, and transformed the theatre into a more inclusive, accessible, and creative space. Alongside a bold programme of live performance and film, we’ve become a regional leader in creative health and community wellbeing—with projects that reach across the borough and make a real difference in people’s lives.

This year, we mark our 50th anniversary not just with celebration, but with a renewed sense of purpose and momentum. We are proud of our roots, but we are looking forward.

Our new Director will continue this journey—leading the organisation with ambition, imagination, integrity and care. They will work closely with a talented, committed team and a supportive Board of Trustees to shape the future of a theatre that means so much to so many.

We are also preparing to say a heartfelt goodbye to our current Director, Jess Brewster, who steps down after six years in the role. Jess has led The Roses through a period of extraordinary growth and change, and her leadership has helped define what The Roses is today: a place where people come together to be inspired, entertained, and uplifted. While we will miss her greatly, we are excited to welcome the next person to carry this work forward.

“Jess leaves an extraordinary legacy—one built on courage, creativity, and deep community connection,” says Jane Baalam, Interim Chair of Trustees. “As we mark our 50th anniversary, this is a powerful moment to reflect on all that’s been achieved—and to look ahead with confidence. We’re looking for a new Director who can take the reins with energy and bold ambition, and continue to shape The Roses as a vital, innovative part of cultural life in Tewkesbury and beyond.”

Applications are now open and close on Mon 23 Jun 2025.

If you are ready to lead one of the region's most exciting and community-rooted arts organisations, we’d love to hear from you.
