About Bad Apples

Saoirse Ronan stars as a school teacher pushed to breaking point in this darkly comic thriller that turns an all-too-familiar classroom problem into something much darker — and considerably more ridiculous.

Maria is a primary school teacher doing her best to keep a class of ten-year-olds under control. But one particularly unruly pupil is making her life impossible, and after an incident gets badly out of hand, Maria makes a decision she can’t easily undo: she takes the boy home and locks him in her basement. The plan is simple — keep him there until she can work out what to do. But when the rest of the class suddenly starts behaving beautifully without him, Maria finds herself facing an increasingly complicated dilemma.

Featuring a terrific performance from Saoirse Ronan and Adapted from Rasmus Andersson’s novel The Unwanted, Bad Apples is a deliciously uncomfortable comedy-thriller about the pressures placed on teachers and the lengths we might go to when we feel we’ve run out of options.
