Miranda started her career as a musician in 1996 at the age of 18, playing bass guitar for a country rock band.

After 2 years touring and playing for line dancing in working mens clubs across Britain, the folk-rock band Pressgang were looking for a bass player. She drove her trusty Vauxhall Chevette from Lincolnshire to Reading for an audition and got the job. The next 2 years were spent touring internationally with them.

Miranda had been dragged around folk festivals and gigs from a few weeks old. Her parents played in a ceilidh band and she was often in the wings in a cot. Towersey and Cropredy Festivals were their annual Summer holidays.

After a few years of musical promiscuity playing with Firebrand, Little Johnny England, Robb Johnson, Bill Jones, Steafan Hannigan, Reg Meuross, Kirsty McGee, The Phil Beer Band, Martyn Joseph and The Scoville Units she depped for Pete Zorn in the 2004 Show Of Hands festival band line up. Miranda toured with them for the next 20 years, whilst finding time for the Miranda Sykes Band in 2005 and extensive touring and several albums both solo and in a duo with mandolin player Rex Preston.

Since the world emerged from Covid, Miranda has been busy touring and recording with Hannah Martin (Edgelarks), Jim Causley, Daphne’s Flight (supergroup), Chris While & Julie Matthews, The Phil Beer Trio and solo.

2027 promises to be another busy year touring with Daphne’s Flight and Jim Causley as well as a new solo tour and album.
