Juliette Binoche and Tom Courtenay face an impossible decision in Lance Hammer’s deeply affecting drama about dementia, family and the right to choose.

Amanda returns to London with her teenage daughter and finds herself caught in a painful disagreement with her stepfather, Martin. Her mother is living with advanced dementia, and the family must decide whether she is still able to make important decisions for herself. As Amanda and Martin struggle over what is best for her, questions of love, responsibility and personal freedom become increasingly difficult to separate.

Winner of the Silver Bear Jury Prize at Berlin, and with beautifully understated performances from Juliette Binoche, Tom Courtenay and Anna Calder-Marshall, Queen at Sea never offers easy answers, instead asking who should make decisions for someone who can no longer make them for themselves — and what happens when the people who love them disagree.
