About Extra Geography

Two inseparable boarding-school friends decide to fall in love as a summer project in this funny, spiky coming-of-age story about friendship, jealousy and growing up.

Flic and Minna are best friends at an English girls’ boarding school, so close that they seem to have their own language and their own rules. As they approach the end of school, they decide to set themselves a rather unusual challenge: they will each fall in love with the next person they meet. What starts as an amusing experiment soon becomes much more complicated as boys, teachers, jealousy and the uncertainties of growing up begin to get in the way — and their once-unshakeable friendship starts to change.

Molly Manners makes an assured feature debut, capturing the intensity and absurdity of teenage friendship with a wonderfully offbeat sense of humour. Adapted by Succession writer Miriam Battye from a short story by Rose Tremain, Extra Geography is fresh, funny and occasionally surprising, finding plenty of truth in the complicated business of being young, wanting to belong and discovering that your best friend might not always want the same things as you.

Director: Molly Manners
Cast: Marni Duggan, Galaxie Clear, Alice Englert, Aoife Riddell, Gabriel Nagy, Cody Mitchell, Jairaj Varsani, Zac Hurren.
