Jenna Ortega is an Artificial Friend who discovers love, loss and the complicated nature of being human in Taika Waititi’s quirky, tender adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s bestselling novel.

Klara is an Artificial Friend, designed to keep people company. When she is chosen by lonely teenager Josie, she moves into their home and begins to learn how the human world works. Josie has been through a great deal, but Klara’s innocent curiosity and unwavering loyalty gradually bring the family closer together. As she tries to help Josie, Klara begins to discover just how complicated love, loss and human connection can be.

Based on Kazuo Ishiguro’s bestselling novel, Klara and the Sun brings together Ishiguro’s quietly melancholy story and Taika Waititi’s knack for finding humour and eccentricity in even the most serious situations. The director of Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Jojo Rabbit and Thor: Ragnarok gives the futuristic world a distinctly offbeat personality, while Jenna Ortega brings a wonderfully open, curious quality to Klara. It’s an AI story less interested in robots taking over the world than in asking what a machine might teach us about love, family and being human.
