About The Cycle of Love

A young Indian artist cycles 6,000 miles to reunite with the woman he loves in this extraordinary true story of romance, destiny and taking a leap of faith.

In 1977, PK Mahanandia is a 23-year-old street artist living in Delhi when he meets Lotta, a young Swedish tourist. They fall in love, but when Lotta returns home, PK can’t afford a plane ticket to Sweden. So he does something rather extraordinary: armed with a handful of paintbrushes and a second-hand bicycle, he sets off on a 6,000-mile journey across Asia and Europe to find her. Convinced that their meeting was written in the stars, he faces mountains, borders, bad weather and plenty of uncertainty along the way.

Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Orlando von Einsiedel, The Cycle of Love combines interviews with PK and Lotta, dramatic recreations and footage from the places that shaped their story. But beneath the extraordinary romance is a story about caste, class, identity and the determination to build a life on your own terms. Decades after they first met, PK and Lotta are still together — making this one of those rare true stories that really does sound too good to be true.
