About The Yellow Tie

John Malkovich leads an exceptional cast as legendary conductor Sergiu Celibidache in this sweeping true story of music, ambition and one man’s uncompromising pursuit of perfection.

Sergiu Celibidache grows up in Romania determined to become a musician. His journey takes him to Berlin, where he studies music just as Europe is heading towards war. After surviving the devastation of the Second World War, he rises to become principal conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic — but his uncompromising approach to music and his refusal to embrace the growing world of commercial recordings soon brings him into conflict with the musical establishment.

Directed by Celibidache’s son, Serge Ioan Celebidachi, The Yellow Tie is both an epic musical biopic and a deeply personal family story. Ben Schnetzer plays the young Celibidache, with John Malkovich taking over as the older conductor, with Sean Bean, Miranda Richardson and Kate Phillips rounding off an exceptional cast. The performances capture a man whose extraordinary talent comes with an equally formidable personality, while the film brings his lifelong obsession with music vividly to the screen.

Director: Serge Ioan Celebidachi
