A charity concert featuring Phil Beer and Friends.

Steve Crickett arrived in Gloucestershire in the mid-1980s as a member of Cheltenham based transatlantic folk rock band The Arizona Smoke Revue. His affable personality and talent rapidly established him as a fine drummer and popular character on the Gloucestershire music scene. After the demise of The Arizonas Steve joined The Phil Beer Band, with whom he toured extensively.

When not drumming Steve worked as bar manager at The Roses where he was hugely popular amongst both staff and customers for over twenty years. When The Roses pantomime needed a drummer Steve was the obvious choice, and he was a regular fixture in the orchestra pit right up until his last panto in 2019.

Steve died in March 2026.

His many colleagues, both from the world of music and The Roses felt they hadn’t had the chance to say goodbye properly, which brings us to this, a concert performed by Steve’s friends in a venue staffed by Steve’s friends in front of an audience full of Steve’s friends.

Performers confirmed so far include Phil Beer, Miranda Sykes, Paul Downes, Emily Slade and Jesse Benns.

The proceeds from this concert will be split equally between three charities: Kidney Research UK (the leading charity in the UK focused on funding research into the prevention, treatment and management of kidney disease), The Ed Sheeran Foundation (which works to improve access to musical education and is chosen in recognition of Steve's formidable musical talent) and The Roses Theatre itself, which was such a big part of Steve’s life.

After the concert, the bar will be open to enable an opportunity for all to reminisce and continue celebrating Steve’s life.
